Good news for channel, bad for AMD

In its latest processor price list Intel has unveiled has unveiled a couple of generous price cuts to quad-core processors.

The consumer desktop Core 2 Quad Q6700 is seeing its price drop from $530 to $266, as is the quad-core Xeon X3230.

This sees that Q6700 achieve price parity with the Q6600, which had been considered better value for money. Or it would if the Q6600’s price wasn’t being dropped 16 percent to $224 – as is the X3220.

Other significant price-cuts include the Core 2 Duo E6850 from $266 to $183 and the E4600 from $133 to $113. The Dual-core Xeon 3085 has been cut from $266 to $188.

These cuts are presumed to be an effort to shift older stock in advance of 45nm products hitting the market.
