Virtual intentions

Microsoft has announced the intention to acquire Kidaro, a company that makes desktop virtualisation solutions for enterprises.

It also intends to combine Kidaro’s technology with the snappily named Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack for Software Assurance – its suite of desktop management tools. That’s as long as the deal proceeds as intended of course.

“The acquisition of Kidaro is an important component of our virtualisation strategy, and it delivers a powerful new tool to help enterprise customers optimise their desktops,” said Shanen Boettcher, general manager of Windows product management at Microsoft.

“Incorporating Kidaro’s innovative solutions into the Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack further enables virtualisation across the enterprise, and is another example of how we are helping customers keep up with the changing needs of their business.”

Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack for Software Assurance consists of the following components:

Microsoft Application Virtualization

Microsoft Asset Inventory Service

Microsoft Advanced Group Policy Management

Microsoft Diagnostics and Recovery Toolset

Microsoft System Center Desktop Error Monitoring
