An undisclosed amount of Microsoft gear literally fell off the back of a lorry in Dartford on 14th January and is now expected to be in circulation in the channel.

Michala Wardell, head of anti-piracy at Microsoft UK, told HEXUS.channel: “We are working with the police as they carry out their investigation into how this incident happened and are fully deactivating the license keys from the stolen products. This means anyone attempting to use the counterfeit products will only be able to run the software in a reduced functionality mode.”

The news was first brought to the attention of the channel by distributor VIP. Mark Lynch, Microsoft product manager at VIP, said: “Although this is a serious incident for VIP and Microsoft, we are working closely with Microsoft, our insurers and the police to try and recover and remove these goods from the channel. I would just want to warn anybody from buying from unauthorised resellers, as there is a risk they may be unknowingly purchasing this stolen stock.”
