Tonnes of transistors

At the International Solid State Circuits Conference in San Francisco this week, Intel is revealing details of its latest offerings specifically designed for UMPCs and high-end servers.

Silverthorne is the codename for a super-small, low power, single core, 45nm CPU that will combine with the Poulsbo chipset to create the Menlow platform designed for UMPCs and MIDs.

Tukwila is the upgrade of the incumbent Itanium 2 processor, the dual-core Montvale. It is a 65nm quad-core processor and is the first to feature two billion transistors.
