Internet down in Middle East

Could last weeks

Two undersea cables have been damaged off the Egyptian coast, disrupting internet connections in the Middle East and India. Repair ships were apparently flocking to the scene last night, but a full restoration of bandwidth isn't expected for a couple of weeks.

I number of years ago, I found an interesting article on Wired.com on how FLAG (The cable that got severed) was built.

Wired 4.12: Mother Earth Mother Board

It is Loooog (56 pages), but a good read, and full of interesting anecdotes so if you have a few hours I encourage you to read it, or do like I do and read in in installments while you are waiting for stuff to compile or the like.
