Simplifying servers

Intel has launched what it calls modular server building blocks, which it claims will allow system builders to uniquely integrate computing, networking and storage capabilities in one system for small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs).

The launch comes as many system builders are contemplating, or are already in the process of, moving into the SMB market where margins are often a lot healthier than they are in the consumer space. “The system builder server market will have a richer set of offerings with the high-end server technologies featured in this set of modular building blocks,” said Tom Rampone, vice president of Intel’s sales and marketing group and general manager for the channel platforms group.

The modular server building blocks are based on Intel Multi-Flex Technology, a set of management and storage technologies developed to enable ease of use, low-cost and flexibility. They are apparently already shipping and, while pricing information isn’t currently available, it can be got from selected Intel Channel Partners Program members.
